Big Announcement- I no longer trust Chat GPT for anything to do with coding.

So far,

I have depended on chatgpt for answers to coding questions while working.

Or if I forgot something and needed to check without going through 100 pages of notes.

As of today, February 19th, 2025, no more.

I am not saying I won’t use Chat GPT again, I’m just saying I won’t trust chat GPT again.

  1. I am tired of being sent on try this try that wild goose chases by Chat GPT.
  2. It wastes a lot of time.
  3. Chat GPT answers in 1 second. In other words, very quickly, an quite often the answer is wrong. Even when you click the reason button, it still confidently spits out the wrong answer.

I have been reading a lot about how in the future all coding will be done by bots and Software Engineers will only be used to check the bots work.

I’m here to say that this will never ever happen.

They make too many mistakes.

I am just writing about it now but it is something I have known for more than a year.

i did an experiment recently where I asked Chat GPT to create something I did in a previous assignment. Right after listening to a podcast about how software engineers were going to be a work.

What Chat GPT created was ridiculous attempt #1 and ridiculous attempt #2.

See below.

Exhibit A when I asked it to draw some markers using gradients.

Exhibit B. Please draw me an airplane using CSS

So anyway, like I said I just wanted to document the date when

  1. I stopped worrying about chatGPT taking jobs away from coders.
  2. Stopped trusting chatGPT.

Rule of Thumb When Asking ChatGPT for help

If what it’s helping you to understand takes more than five minutes, get out of there! Run! Run! Run!

One hour later it will still be saying, “Got it! OK. This is what you do and giving you more bad instructions.
