About

I’ve been meaning to learn how to code for a while. I’ve known html since about 1998. I’ve known how to make a Wordpress site or simple site for a while. But as we all know, a real developer knows html, css and javascript.

So on January 13th, 2025, I started learning web development.

I always thought I didn’t have the right kind of brain for coding. I lean more towards the artistic side. I could easily write you a song in 5 minutes; and it would be a good song.

So, I’ve outsourced my web development projects to others for years.

But a dream I had a couple years ago reminded me that I need to learn to code.

This site is about my journey as a web developer.

Instead of just sharing my polished perfect hotshot coder projects, I am sharing even my student coding projects.

Why? Because someone who thinks they are too old to learn to code may wander across the internet one day and find this site. I want them to know that

  • You’re not too old.
  • You don’t have the wrong kind of brain.
  • You can learn how to code.

Join me on this journey from student coder to portfolio projects to thoughts. Yes, I have thoughts about all sorts of things going on in web development.

Come back to visit often to see what this old fogey is up to! Hopefully you’ll learn something, share something and be inspired to start coding yourself.

Fun fact: My codepen name is maricoder because I live in the maritimes in Canada.
